Physiotherapy Services
I provide musculoskeletal physiotherapy services to patients of all ages. A referral from your GP is not always necessary especially for private self-pay/non-medical aid patients. For medical aid patients, depending on your plan, a referral from your GP might be necessary for your medical aid to cover the costs.
I will be happy to collaborate with your GP, specialist, or trainer/coach (with your permission) to ensure you get holistic, individualised care.
Sports injuries can occur during a training session or during a sporting activity. They commonly include injuries such as strains, sprains, or tears. Physiotherapy management of these injuries aims to protect the affected area to minimise the degree of injury and then to guide you back to your previous level of function. This may include taping or bracing, some manual therapy, and an individualised rehabilitation program.
Lower back pain is a very common occurrence and affects individuals of all ages. It has in fact been ranked as the number 1 cause of disability globally.
The spine is made up of the cervical spine (neck), thoracic spine (upper back), lumbar spine (lower back) and the sacrum/coccyx (part of the pelvis). Most spine-related pain can be treated by an individualised rehabilitation plan from your physiotherapist which will include movement therapy and may include manual therapy as well.
I am qualified to perform a full assessment of your spine, its movement, and how it fits in with your day-to-day tasks with the aim of helping you regain normal function.
Rehabilitation / Movement Therapy / Movement Retraining
Movement retraining constitutes a major part of my patient management. More and more research papers show that passive techniques (manual therapy) alone do not result in lasting changes to symptoms like pain, stiffness, tightness etc. I will work with you to determine the cause of your symptoms and develop a movement retraining plan together with you so that you can regain your movement choices and be able to perform at your life tasks.
I am fortunate to be a part of the group of tutors at Comera Movement Science. This internationally recognised organisation is at the forefront of Cognitive Movement Assessment and Retraining.
The brand, Dynamic Tape is the original Biomechanical Tape®. When applied correctly, it is designed to change movement patterns and therefore the forces acting on a certain joint or movement segment. As a result, I may therefore recommend using Dynamic Tape to you as part of your management.
I am proud to be associated with Dynamic Tape® as an Accredited Tutor.

Dry Needling is another useful tool in the toolbox of a physiotherapist. Sterile, fine filament needles may be used as part of your treatment session to assist in management of pain and facilitate soft tissue healing. Your consent will always be asked for prior to me using dry needling as part of your treatment.
Temperomandibular Joint Treatment
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ), more commonly known as your jaw, may be the cause of not only jaw/tooth/dental pain but some forms of headaches and neck pain too. I can assess the musculoskeletal functioning of the TMJ to determine whether this small joint might be contributing to your pain.
If necessary, I am happy to liaise with your dentist regarding ongoing treatment and management of your TMJ.
Acute Care and Chronic Physiotherapy
I am confident in managing both acute injuries as well as chronic injuries. Typically, in the management of acute injuries I can identify a mechanism of injury and support the body from the beginning to prevent recurrence in the future.
If, however you have struggled with pain, stiffness or dysfunction for a while for no apparent reason, I am skilled at identifying possible underlying causes for your pain, stiffness or dysfunction and addressing these with a range of tools such as manual therapy, dry needling, taping, and (in my opinion the most important) movement retraining.
I am committed to making sure that you, as the patient, walk out of my rooms understanding the underlying cause for your pain, stiffness, or dysfunction. We will work together to reduce pain, stiffness and to improve your function so that you are able to achieve your movement goals, whatever those might be.
Being a keen runner myself I can offer running assessments to both the beginner starting out as well as the more serious runner. During your running assessment, I will ask about your goals and expectations. I’ll then put you through a few running specific movements to have a look at how you move. A video of you running on the treadmill will then be taken. I will then review this with you and suggest ways to make your running more efficient.
Pre-operative rehabilitation has been shown to improve post-operative results significantly I am confident to work together with your surgeon to provide you the best quality care prior to your surgery.
I am confident to work with post-operative conditions including back surgery, hip and knee replacements, hip scopes, knee ligament repairs, knee scopes, shoulder reconstruction and neck surgery. I will make sure to liaise with your surgeon and work together with them to get you fully recovered.
